CIAM at MAKS-2017. Day 1

19 July 2017

The P.I. Baranov Central Institute of Aviation Motors (CIAM) participates at the XIII International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2017 which has opened on 18 July 2017 in Zhukovski, Moscow region. The exhibition booth of the Institute is a part of the united exposition of the organizations being subsidiaries of the National Research Center "Zhukovsky Institute".

The first day of the air show turned out to be very eventful. The CIAM booth was visited by many guests. The Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitriy Rogozin was among them. Mikhail Gordin, Director General of the Institute, presented him the central exhibit – a model of a hybrid-electric propulsion system developed in the framework of creation of a prospective fully electrical aircraft. He briefed the Deputy Prime Minister on a proposal for implementation of the complex scientific and technological project “Fully Electrical Aircraft”.

Ecology is the second most important requirement to civil aviation after safety. Electrification is one of the most promising directions for development in the aircraft industry, allowing to meet the strengthening requirements to ecology and fuel efficiency.

“The hybrid-electric propulsion system presented by us is a practical step towards creation of a fully electrical aircraft. It features application of electric equipment using the effect of high-temperature superconductivity, – Mikhail Gordin said. – The project for the development of a fully electrical aircraft is planned for implementation in broad cooperation between the R&D subsidiaries of the National Research Center "Zhukovsky Institute", with involvement of the SuperOx company.

The CIAM Director General also advised Dmitriy Rogozin that the planned rated power of the hybrid-electric propulsion system is 500 kW. Technologies developed by the CIAM in the course of the project implementation may be utilized in other industries.

Dmitriy Rogozin emphasized the importance of that development.

The CIAM booth was also visited by a delegation of the Ministry of Industry and Informatiion Technology of the P.R.C. headed by the Vice Minister Xin Guobin. Mikhail Gordin told the Chinese guests about the research currently being conducted by the Institute.

In the course of the day, the CIAM exposition was popular among the air show visitors. Interest was sparked by aircraft engine parts manufactured on the basis of application of state-of-the-art materials and technologies, airborne diagnostic systems for helicopter gearboxes and transmissions, etc.

MAKS, as an exhibition of achievements of aviation and space industry and a large business platform, provides unique opportunities, and CIAM plans to use them for fruitful work with maximum output. The Institute specialists will take active part in the events of the airshow business program, including conferences, round tables and workshops. Many meetings and negotiations have been scheduled both with Russian and with foreign partners.

We invite everyone to visit the CIAM exhibition booth in the D2 pavilion from 10:00 to 18:00.
