CIAM at the 8th Symposium on Applied Aerodynamics and Design of Aerospace Vehicles SAROD 2018

17 December 2018
Researchers of the Central Institute of Aviation Motors (CIAM, a subsidiary of the National Research Center ‘Zhukovsky Institute’) made presentations at the 8th Symposium on Applied Aerodynamics and Design of Aerospace Vehicles which took place on November 29 through December 1, 2018 in Bangalore (India). The event was organized by the Aeronautical Development Agency (АDА), Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) and National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL).

SAROD is a biennial symposium. It was held for the first time in 2003.

202 articles covering various disciplines and scientific areas were presented at SAROD 2018. Technical Committee members together with reviewers selected 90 best articles for oral presentations and 40 for panel reports.

CIAM’s representatives, Head of Division V.I. Mileshin and Head of Department L.S. Yanovsky, took active part in the Symposium.

V.I. Mileshin delivered a planar report “Development of High – Loaded High Pressure Compressor with the first Two Wide–Chord Stages of ‘Blisk’ Type” devoted to the analysis of benefits and disadvantages of blisk technology application for the first two highly loaded stages in future high pressure compressors (HPC) development.

L.S. Yanovsky, in his report “Computational Multidisciplinary Research of Aviation Cryogenic Full System”, examined the tasks of modeling and thermal/hydraulic optimization of the cryogenic fuel system as related to the specific properties of this fuel when used in the propulsion units of high-speed aircraft.

Both reports gained genuine interest of the forum participants.

SAROD 2018 was supported by internationally known aircraft companies, such as DASSAULT, HAL and Altair, as well as the computer giants DELLEMC, Intel and globally renowned software developers ANSYS and Metacomp Technologies.
