CIAM reflects on its work at Airshow China 2016

The Central Institute of Aviation Motors after P.I. Baranov (part of National Research Center «Zhukovsky Institute») reflected on its work at Airshow China 2016, the 11th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition held in Zhuhai, China. As a reminder, it was the first time that CIAM participated in the airshow as part of the joint exhibition of the National Research Center «Zhukovsky Institute».

The achievements of CIAM's researchers presented at the exhibition traditionally sparked a great interest among the show's guests and participants. Our experts demonstrated a number of the latest design and process solutions that allow considerable improvement in future engine performance.

Besides the work in the exhibition part of Airshow China 2016, CIAM's experts (as part of the National Research Center «Zhukovsky Institute» delegation) also participated in a number of task forces held within the airshow business program.

Potential areas for collaboration in aircraft engine construction were discussed with representatives of Chinese research and industrial organizations. In particular, potential opportunities and areas of collaboration were discussed at a meeting between the Russian delegation and the Aero Engine Academy of China (AEAC) management. The Academy is part of AECC (Aero Engine Corporation of China), dealing with basic and applied research, future engine technologies development, and modeling and development of an aircraft engine design system.

Entering into a Strategic Partnership Agreement between the National Research Center «Zhukovsky Institute» and the China Aviation Academy (CAE) became one of the Airshow China 2016 milestones. The agreement is aimed at enhancing the efficiency of and extending technical research collaboration between Russian and Chinese aviation research organizations. In particular, the Agreement provides for research and the implementation of joint projects in promising areas of aircraft science development, as well as a regular exchange of information and participation in research conferences and seminars.

Based on the results of the work of National Research Center «Zhukovsky Institute» representatives at Airshow China 2016, a number of additional meetings with the management of Chinese organizations were slated for the discussion of more detailed potential collaboration.

For reference:

The National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute” was founded in 2014 as a Federal Government Entity to lead and coordinate scientific research, introduce new technologies and oversee new developments in the aviation industry with the aim of bringing innovation to the manufacturing process and using advanced scientific results to benefit the Russian economy. The National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute” includes the following research centers: Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI), Central Institute of Aviation Motors named after P.I. Baranov (CIAM), State Research Institute of Aviation Systems (GosNIIAS), Siberian Aeronautical Research Institute named after S.A. Chaplygin (SibNIA) and State Treasury Scientific Testing Ground of Aircraft Systems (GkNIPAS).
